The receiver is the hub: it decodes the soundtrack, amplifies every channel, and switches your HDMI sources. Three things separate the models below — how many channels they amplify (which caps your speaker layout), how honestly their power is rated, and what their HDMI boards actually carry. Power is where spec sheets play games: the same amplifier can be advertised at wildly different wattages depending on the impedance, channels driven, and distortion threshold used for the measurement, so our catalog stores each rating together with its measurement context — and records the context as unstated when the manufacturer omits it, rather than guessing. The same rule covers impedance ratings and per-port HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. Prices are live estimates from tracked, trusted retailers, cheapest first — commissions never reorder them. How many channels does a receiver need?

Five amplified channels plus a sub (5.1) is the proven baseline most content is mixed for. Dolby Atmos needs a height layer on top: a 5.1.2 layout takes seven amplified channels, so an Atmos-capable receiver must be a 7.1/7.2 design. The channel-layout guide decodes the numbering.

Why do receiver wattage claims differ so much?

Because the measurement conditions differ. A rating taken into 6Ω with one channel driven at 1% THD reads far higher than the same amplifier measured into 8Ω with two channels driven at 0.08% THD. We store each power figure with its stated conditions — and flag the ones whose conditions are unstated — so you can compare like-for-like. How to read power ratings.

Do all these receivers support Dolby Atmos?

No — and we never assume it. Each product page states Atmos support per model from source-tracked data, three-state: yes, no, or unstated when no source says either way. Filter the list or check the product page before you count on it.

Will a receiver here drive my speakers?

That depends on the pairing, not the receiver alone: the speaker's sensitivity and impedance dips against the receiver's rated impedance range and power. The builder computes exactly that check from the stored fields — and says "can't check" when a spec sheet omits the needed rating, never a silent pass.
