Acoustic treatment is the upgrade the rest of the system can't fake: the room decides how much of your speakers' performance you actually hear. The catalog splits by job — absorbers (flat panels and bass traps that soak up reflections and boom) and diffusers (rigid structures that scatter sound instead of deadening it) — and two numbers do most of the separating. Thickness governs how low a panel works: thin foam tames echo and little else, while thick fiberglass or mineral-wool traps reach into the bass. Absorption performance is published two ways, and we store both honestly: a single NRC rating where the maker states one, and per-frequency lab coefficients where they publish the full test table instead — coefficients can legitimately exceed 1.0 (a lab artifact of edge diffraction), and we record them as published rather than clamping. The other trap in this category is the sale unit: much of it sells in pairs, 6-packs or 12-packs, so every listing here states what one purchase actually contains and prices refer to that unit. Where a spec is unpublished, it reads unstated — never guessed.

Buying acoustic treatment — common questions

Where should the first acoustic panels go?

First reflection points — the spots on the side walls and ceiling where you can see the speakers in a mirror from your seat — then the corners, where bass piles up and a thick trap earns more than another thin panel. A modest number of well-placed panels beats wallpapering the room.

What does an NRC rating mean, and can it really be above 1.0?

NRC averages how much sound a panel absorbs across the speech band — 0.0 reflects everything, 1.0 absorbs everything. Lab values above 1.0 are real and common for thick panels: edge diffraction lets a panel absorb more sound than its face area accounts for. We store ratings exactly as published, and where a maker publishes per-frequency test tables instead of a single NRC, we store those.

Is foam or fiberglass better for acoustic panels?

They do different jobs. Foam is light and cheap and controls mid/high echo, but its bass absorption is minimal — the published test data shows it plainly. Rigid fiberglass and mineral-wool panels absorb far more per inch, especially low down, which is why serious bass traps are never foam. Check the thickness and the absorption data, not the marketing category.

Are acoustic panel prices per panel or per pack?

Both exist in the wild, which is why every product here records its sale unit explicitly: singles, pairs, or boxed multi-packs. The listed price always refers to that stated unit — we never divide a pack price into a fabricated per-panel figure.
